Wine-making is a talent that doesn't come easily. Like many things, it is said to take years and years of practice... and loads of tweaking!
I was lucky enough to find someone who has come from an established winemaking family in Europe, who now makes his own wine in his back shed.
Plus, he lives next door!
Les Vuk left the family vineyard in Slovenia, and has been in Australia working as a car mechanic for about thirty years now.
So, it wasn't a surprise to find out that he presses his grapes using a hand machined grape press powered by a 20 tonne car jack!
Les has a proud history as a wine maker. His family still operates a vineyard back in his home country of Slovenia where his 84-year-old mother supervises the crush, which uses a massive corkscrew timber press, hand carved by his father.
The car jack Les uses in the back shed might not be as beautiful, but certainly proves very effective........
